Jae should have expected this.
No, really. He should have seen it coming the moment Ava gave birth.
Because Kai had always been dramatic.
But this? This was a new level of insanity.
It all started with a text.
Jae was in his office, going through paperwork, when his phone buzzed.
Kai: Min, I’ve made a decision.
Jae frowned. What now?
Kai: I’m taking her.
Jae blinked. …Taking who?
Kai: SERA.
Jae dropped his pen.
Jae: WHAT.
Kai: You and Ava don’t deserve her. I’ve decided to become her father.
Jae shot out of his chair.
Jae: I SWEAR TO GOD, KAI, IF YOU TOUCH MY DAUGHTER—
Kai: Too late. I’m already at your house.
Jae ran.
Back at the House
When Jae burst through the front door, he was met with a horrifying sight.
Kai was holding Sera and whispering to her like some kind of criminal mastermind.
“I know, baby girl,” Kai murmured. “You deserve better than these two fools. Come live with Uncle Kai. I’ll give you everything. A kingdom. A pony. A private jet—”
Jae ripped Sera out of Kai’s arms.
“GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY DAUGHTER, YOU LUNATIC.”
Kai clutched his heart. “HOW DARE YOU?”
Ava walked into the room, rubbing her temples. “What’s going on?”
Jae growled, pointing at Kai. “HE WAS TRYING TO KIDNAP SERA.”
Ava sighed. “Again?”
Kai gasped. “IT’S NOT KIDNAPPING. IT’S A RESCUE MISSION.”
Jae narrowed his eyes. “RESCUE FROM WHAT?”
Kai folded his arms. “YOU.”
Jae glared. “Kai. Listen to me carefully. If you EVER try to take my daughter again—”
“I WILL.”
Jae cracked his knuckles.
Kai ran.
Later That Night
Sera was asleep in her crib when Ava turned to Jae with a smirk.
“You have to admit,” she whispered, “Kai really loves her.”
Jae sighed, rubbing his face. “I know. He’s insane, but I know.”
Ava giggled. “I think it’s cute.”
Jae scoffed. “You think my best friend threatening to kidnap my daughter is cute?”
Ava shrugged. “A little.”
Jae groaned. “You’re insane too.”
Ava leaned up, kissing his cheek. “You love me.”
Jae smirked, wrapping his arms around her. “Yeah. I do.”
As he looked over at Sera sleeping peacefully, he sighed.
Their life was chaotic.
Their friends were unhinged.
But honestly?
Jae wouldn’t have it any other way.
