Chapter One: The Storm Arrives~

Chapter One: The Storm Arrives

Ava Williams didn’t need saving. She never had, and she never would.

She was the storm that tore through rules, the wildfire that refused to be tamed. People gravitated toward her, drawn to her reckless energy, her unshaken confidence, the way she laughed in the face of authority. She was the kind of trouble that made life exciting. Without her, the house she lived in felt dull, empty—like a space stripped of its soul.

But what no one saw, what she never let anyone see, was the weight she carried when the laughter faded. The ghosts of her past, the memories she buried so deep even she sometimes forgot they existed—until they clawed their way back at night.

Not that it mattered. She had long since learned that needing someone only led to disappointment.

So here she was. A new school. A new battlefield.

Ravenswood Academy.

It sounded fancy, prestigious. A place filled with intelligent, beautiful, elite students. But that was just the polished surface. Beneath it, this school was nothing but a war zone, divided into five sections—ranked from the best to the absolute worst.

And, of course, they dumped her in Section E.

The lowest of the low. The rejects. The outcasts.

Perfect.

Ava pushed open the heavy wooden doors of the classroom, stepping inside like she owned the place. The room fell silent for half a second before the boys inside resumed whatever useless thing they were doing—halfhearted conversations, lazy banter, or just outright ignoring her presence.

Typical.

"Ah, you must be Ava Williams."

A deep, unimpressed voice made her glance toward the teacher at the front of the room. He adjusted his glasses, eyeing her like a problem he didn’t have time to deal with.

"Suspended from your previous school. Known troublemaker. Sent here because no other institution would accept you. Do I have that correct?"

Ava cocked her head, a slow smirk curling her lips. "Wow, you make me sound so dangerous. Should I have brought a warning label?"

A few chuckles echoed through the class. The teacher, however, didn’t look amused. "Just take a seat, Miss Williams. And try to—"

The sound of a chair scraping against the floor interrupted him.

Ava turned.

At the front of the class, a boy stood with his arms crossed. Sharp, dark eyes met hers—cold, unwavering, filled with nothing but arrogance. His uniform was crisp, his posture commanding, and the air around him practically screamed authority.

"She doesn’t belong here," he said smoothly.

Ava raised a brow. "Excuse me?"

The teacher sighed. "Jae, not now."

Jae didn’t even acknowledge him. His focus remained on Ava, assessing, unimpressed. "This is Section E. It’s bad enough we’re stuck here, but now we have to deal with someone who thinks she’s better than us?"

Ava let out a low chuckle. "Oh, honey, don’t get it twisted. I don’t think I’m better than you—I know I am."

The classroom erupted in laughter.

Jae’s jaw tightened, but his expression remained unreadable. "Confidence doesn’t mean anything here. This isn’t a place for the weak."

Ava took a step closer, tilting her head as she met his gaze head-on. "Weak?" She laughed softly, shaking her head. "You have no idea who you’re talking to, do you?"

Jae’s eyes flickered with something unreadable, but before he could speak, Ava turned her back to him and strolled to an empty seat at the back of the class.

Challenge accepted.
